  • There were a number of problems with this tour. First off, once we there were probably about 50 of us met at the train station, we were told to follow this woman to where the bus would pick us up. The train station was crowded and that woman moved fast, never looking to see if people were still with her. I wouldn't be surprised if some people got left behind.

The San Gimignano part was as expected. However, things kind of fell apart when the six of us who had signed up to go to Volterra were being driven there. Our guide hardly spoke a word. The other problem was that some of the things that were described in the Viator ad never happened. We never went to an Alabaster Museum, only a place where alabaster items are sold. Our guided tour of Volterra was perfunctory, at best, and then the guide just gave us a map and told us where to meet him in two hours. The cheese tasting was a joke. We could have done that on our own as it was just some pieces of cheese sitting out for all the customers in the cheese shop to taste. Things improved with the wine tasting though, which was fun.

All in all, I was disappointed in this tour.

  • Great tour! Highly recommended. Informative, attentive and funny guides. It was a wonderful day filled with great places and great wine. The wine tasting was the best we experienced in Italy.

  • Hotel pick-up made arrival a breeze. At the check-in point, the tour company divides groups by colors correlating to bus. They try to put language groups together as well, my bus spoke largely English. This was a large, comfortable bus. There wasn't a lot of time in San Gimignano, you could choose either enjoy the shops or climb the tower. There are many cute salami and pottery shops, more than enough to keep you occupied. Views are amazing.

After San G., our tour group broke away from the other for Volterra. No vampire legends. Amazing alabaster products. It was a smaller, more comfortable, group. My one complaint was that the small car was very hot in the Tuscan heat. This made enjoying the scenery difficult. The guide was our driver. He was very kind with perfect English, but do not expect a historical tour. There was much more time in Volterra, I enjoyed lunch. I could use more time always, but it was a nice taste. The smaller guided tour of Volterra was well worth it, not as many tourists. The views were much better than San G.

Afterwards we returned to San Gimignano for wine tasting. Excellent experience!! It was a wine and food experience, which was amazing and the staff was VERY nice. Our guide did well in saving this part for last.

After we rejoined with the original, larger tour in sienna. They keep assigned sport through their tour... this was not well communicated and made finding a seat difficult. You are expected to find transportation/walk back to your hotel in Florence. It is not far from the train station. Overall a nice taste of tuscany!

  • I enjoyed a lot about this tour, but it turned into a wine tasting with no explanation and ended visiting a site that wasn't on my itinerary that resulted in getting back to Florence later than anticipated. I think they ended up combining 2 different tours and just didn't bother clue any of us into what was actually going on. Also, think the Spanish and English tours were unexpectedly combined, and resulted in a lot of confusion. I can't complain too much though, the last 2 tours I booked through Viator were cancelled the evening before the tours which left me in a position of not being able to book something else I might like to have done. I won't book through Viator again.

  • I have taken other Viator tours and had good experiences. This tour was a complete disappointment. The timing was changed. There was no guided tour. We didn't get to eat all day because of the changes made. I dont want to write a bad review, but I can not find the contact information for customer service.

  • The views were spectacular however you must know to expect transportation nightmares. Our trip started with a complimentary shuttle from our apartment. Very nice, yes. However the cab driver was to pick up another 4 people. He could not locate them and raced through the narrow streets like he was on a timer. We finally made it to the bus station where we we checked in and were given a color coded sticker. Told nothing at that point. About 10 minutes later we were told to board a large bus. We were red but e
Were told to get on the bus with the green. It wasn't until we were nearly out of town that the tour guide acknowledged the two different tours. Clearly they were trying to be efficient with the use of as few resources on their end as possible. We split from the larger group after visiting San Gimignano to a small tour bus with NO working air conditioning. We went to a very nice wine tasting before getting back in the bus to go to Volterra. Again, no AC and having tried 6 wines it was not a comfortable ride. Volterra and San Gimignano are both worth the trip but use caution if you choose this service. Only positive comments were listed on their site when I booked so not sure if my experience was an anomaly or that don't post negative comments.

  • This tour was the highlight of our recent trip to Italy- and we usually don't book tours, usually find things on our own! However when we do its usually a wine tasting type tour, etc. This daylong tour to San Giminagno and Volterra was the best ! Enough time in both towns- after a few hours in San Giminagno, the group split up and we went on a smaller Mercedes van with our guide and new friend, Vincenzo and 4 new friends from Brazil. We loved Volterra! could have stayed longer- Vincenzo was very knowledgeable and funny. We had a cheeses and salami tasting in Volterra and of course bought a lot of it. We even saw Andrea Bocelli riding his horse with his trainer through the streets!! We then went to one of the best wine tastings ever at Tenuta Torciano outside San Giminagno! All in all a great tour

  • This was a great tour! I requested a free pick-up and a taxi came to my hotel to drive me to the bus location. It was a bit complicated in the beginning, because I was on a bus with people going on another tour, but after notifying the tour guides they were able to introduce me to my designated tour guide. The bus took us to San Gimignano, then we had about an hour to explore until the tour guide drove us to a winery, then we went to Volterra, explored the town with him including seeing a demonstration of alabaster production and cheese tasting. Afterwards, we travelled to Monteriggioni a medieval fortress and had 20 min. to explore which truthfully was not a lot of time and then were driven to Siena to reunite with the bus to be taken back to Florence. Overall, an experience-packed trip worth taking!

  • I had a lovely day filled with interesting facts about each spot. There was a good balance between guided portions and free time. My guide was knowledgeable, friendly, and did a great job.

  • This tour was amazing!
