Our family of 3 had a wonderful time. We felt very safe and the group size was not too large. As others have said, the eco tour on the way back was really cool and really added to the experience as well! Highly recommend!
The tour guides were amazing! View was spectacular! The walk in the forest was very informative and the entire family enjoyed themselves.
First off, you need to be able to walk 1.5 km up (UUUUP) a forest path, which is uneven, muddy and/or slippery. It’s a puff going up (about 25 minutes, and our guides did it at a pretty good clip as we were running late and they had another group waiting. You also need to be able to handle two hours between loo breaks. And, of course, if you’re afraid of heights, not the tour for you. Still good with this? Then you’ll have a wonderful time. You can purchase your ferry ticket along with the zip line tour - when we purchased it, at least, there was no up charge so we went with it. You do have to line up for the ferry, and while they only allow as many people as there are seats, it can get a bit dicey if you’re at the back of the line. We were instructed to move over and take bags off seats, which not everyone did (and this was a Sunday afternoon in August - AKA winter, so it wasn’t high season by any stretch). We were picked up by their shuttle driver (make sure to have your phone ringer turned on), who drove us and ten other people to the location. When you get there, and before you suit up, make sure to piddle. There are no restrooms for the next two hours. BRING A BUNGEE or tether or something else to secure your phone to your person or they won’t allow you to use it - or they will sell you a bungee for NZ$15 each. Too many people dropped expensive phones and insisted on looking for them in the forest below, necessitating closing down the lines. It’s a bunch of fun and the views are glorious. There are two lines so two people go at a time. Just… when they tell you to grab the rope at the end, do it. A guide will hold out a rope for you at the end. Take it. Gentlemen, please make sure you wear trousers that FIT. One fella mooned the island when the brake at the end of the line kicked in. It took a while for him to get to a point where he could get them back up again and I spent time carefully averting my eyes… so I didn’t gouge them out. The walk through the forest is actually very pretty and hopefully your guides have time to do their talks. I think the family that showed up with two extra people threw their timing off, but the employees were very gracious about it. It wasn’t cheap but it was a great time.
I took my 2 kids (ages 19 and 17) to do this while mom rested one day. It was cold, windy, and a bit rainy and we still had a great time. Our bus ride from the ferry was insightful and I really enjoyed learning a little bit about the island. Once at EcoZip they provided wet weather gear which was a life saver. We all needed that one more layer and of course it kept us nice and dry. The zip lines were amazing, the views were beautiful, and the staff seemed really invested in us having a good time. The walk back through the rain forest at the end is really beautiful. I would definitely recommend this trip. Go early and then spend a little extra time on the island. We went later in the afternoon and I really wished we had more time to spend on Waiheke. If you can find a beautiful sunny day - I would recommend even more.
Great experience from start to finish. The guide that picked us up at the ferry was excellent and the crew at the Zipline were also top notch. Incredible views and exciting time.
What a fantastic afternoon we had. Fraser and Alex were the perfect hosts and made us all feel really comfortable with the zip lining. The tour of the island leading up to the venue and the forest walk were both very informative and extremely interesting.
The team at EcoZip was excellent. Very focused on safety and made sure all were comfortable every step of the way. After zip-lining, they conducted a fun and informative hike through the forest. Absolutely outstanding from beginning to end!
We booked this tour while in Auckland on a World Cruise. The ship was charging nearly double the cost for the same excursion, so we scheduled it ourselves. This allowed us to get ahead of the cruise crowd by taking an early ferry to Waiheke Island from Auckland and would still give us time to explore the city in the afternoon. Once at the wharf, we walked to the lovely village (Oneara?) where we arranged to be picked up instead of at the wharf. For those who choose to do this, be warned, it is a longer walk than locals describe (about 2 miles) and is uphill. We had just enough time to enjoy a French pastry and coffee at an outside cafe. Once on the bus, the driver provided a nice commentary about the island. The 3 ziplines were wonderful. We were made to feel very safe by the very conscientious staff. My husband (who doesn't enjoy heights and has never ziplined) had a great time. The views are amazing as each zipline becomes faster and higher. The hike back through the forest was peaceful but might be a bit challenging for some, as it is quite steep in areas and you will still be wearing your "gear".
Myself and Nephew had a blast on this experience. KJ & Kyle were awesome guides, clear and concise on what was required to zipline and then very helpful to make your experience the best it can be. The forest walk was great and both lads were very knowledgeable about the local fauna and very willing to answer any question. Definitely in my top 10 travel experiences
The ziplining was very entertaining; there were three separate lines, one after another. The staff is very professional and safety conscious. The forest walk was much more of an experience than we had anticipated; we learned a lot about New Zealand flora and history.
