Know More about this tour

Meet your driver outside Warnemünde Port, and then hop inside your luxury vehicle for the 2-hour journey to the town of Oranienburg, just north of Berlin, where you'll meet your guide. The itinerary, as described below, is flexible and can be tailored to your preferences.

First stop is Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp Memorial in Oranienburg, a former Nazi camp that was set up in the early days of the Third Reich. Head inside with your guide to learn about the atrocities that once took place within its walls. A place of detention, Sachsenhausen was established in the summer of 1936 while the Olympic Games were underway in Berlin. In the nine year of its existence, the site held some 200,000 prisoners, of which around 50,000 were killed.

On your tour of the site, hear how conditions in the camp worsened after the infamous Night of Broken Glass (Kristallnacht) in November 1938 when thousands of Jews were arrested and brought to Sachsenhausen. Learn how Nazi guards used the camp’s execution complex — comprising a neck shot device and later a gas chamber — for the mass killing of nearly 10,000 Soviet prisoners of war, and listen to the heartening tale of the Jewish prisoners who were forced to forge millions of pounds in sterling.

After exploring the former camp with your guide, choose to eat at the onsite cafe or at an eatery in Oranienburg (own expense). Alternatively, head into Berlin first and then enjoy some free time for lunch in the city. The journey time from Oranienburg to central Berlin is roughly 45 minutes, but if traffic conditions are bad on the day of your tour, bear in mind that you may have less time to sightsee. Continue the theme of your morning’s tour and unravel the complex history of the Holocaust with a look at Berlin’s Third Reich sights.

Visit the poignant Holocaust Memorial that pays tribute to the six million Jews murdered during the Second World War, and see the former headquarters of the SS and Gestapo (the Nazi secret police). You’ll also see the site of Hitler’s bunker (Führerbunker) where the leader committed suicide at the end of WWII. Leave the city in the late afternoon, and travel back to Warnemünde Port where your shore excursion finishes.

  • We had an amazing time with Ryan. He was extremely informative, candid and funny Scottish accent was great too:. At first we were concerned that he was not a native German but he is a true scholar and obviously knows from where he speaks! Our family of 6 2 adults and 4 children all agree that Ryan was our favorite guide throughout our vacation. We were on a Baltic cruise and had pre-determined that St. Petersburg would be our favorite city but alas, because of our amazing tour, Berlin turned out to be the favorite for everyone.

  • Excellent experience. We met up with Johnny and he is originally from the UK but had extensive knowledge about each of the places we visited as he has been doing this now for 7-8 years if I remember correctly. This great especially because we had 3 small children and it allowed us to go at our own pace throughout the day depending on how the kids did. We didn't realize at first that we would first be driven down by a non-English speaker but then when we got to Berlin Johnny joined us for the rest of the day until we drove back up to the port.

  • Our tour guide was one of the best guides we had on our entire vacation.

  • This tour was amazing!

  • I was nervous about booking this trip since i had no phone that would work in Germany and would have no way to contact the tour company if there was a problem but everything went very smoothly. Our driver was ready and waiting when we disembarked and drove us to Sachsenhausen where we picked up our guide. Lorna was a native English speaker and very well-informed about what we were seeing. Her commentary was informative and interesting. After touring the concentration camp, we were driven to Berlin where we were given a choice of a full German meal or a sandwich which would allow more time for seeing the sights. We chose the sandwich and were taken to a local shop away from the tourist traffic. From there we toured the Holocaust Memorial and then went on to the Brandenburg Gate, the Reichstag,,the remnants of the Berlin Wall and Checkpoint Charlie. We had limited time to shop in a fancy chocolate shop but almost no opportunity to pick up a souvenir which was disappointing to some. . It was wonderful to have such a small group only 5 which made it easy to keep things moving. Other members of our family went on a motorcoach tour which took just as long as our tour and although they skipped Sachsenhusen they didn't see any more than we did in Berlin. Due to the distance from the port to Berlin, a lot of time was spent just riding in the van but the trip was still worth the effort. We would highly recommend this tour as the best way to make the most of your port of call in Germany.

  • Rick is fantastic tour guide. Very flexible and extremely knowledgeable. We had a great time.

  • Driver was waiting when ship arrived. Fantastic day. Guide very knowledgeable

  • We loved our trip to Berlin! Our guide Finn was fantastic, super knowledgable, and picked up on what our interests were, so he tailored the trip to our interests. Having a private guide through Sachsenhausen made the whole experience so much more real, and full of depth. Our driver Thomas was equally wonderful, timely, and he was able to handle a handicapped individual well. This was by far one of our most memorable excursions!

  • Excellent driver, tour guide, stopped all the important points. Good choice for restaurant. Everything as advertised and more. Good value for money.

  • Our tour with Mike was excellent. the private tour provide so much more than just news about the camp. Life at the time, some of the history about the Reich Stag, Berlin Wall, Brendanburg (sp) Gate, lunch, Museum Row, The interaction and question to help understand the time, war, allies etc. The Holocaust Memorial - everything came to life more with Mike. Great tour, Great guide. Well worth the money. Thank you Mike.
