  • We had a really wonderful time, and saved the hassle of driving to all the sites separately! When I lost my paper tickets to the wind, they were on top of things and issued me e-tickets on my phone. We could stay at each site for as long as we wished, a bus was not far away! Want to save time and hassle? Book one of these tours!

  • We had a difficult time fining stops and when we did locate a tour bus they said we had to go back to union station and get our form signed. There was no Bonus Tour - which was supposed to be a boat tour and when we called to schedule with them on the number provided they said NO they no longer do that.

  • The tour in the morning was quick and informative because traffic was lite. Later in the day, buses were slower. I rode the entire route in the morning and hopped at the last stop to explore the areas of interest. Dre, my tour guide, was fabulous, knowledgeable about the area and monuments. The night tour was excellent, getting a personnel, close up tour of several monuments.

  • The hop on hop off bus was always more than 30 minute wait. That's a lot of time when you are trying to see the city in 1 day.

  • The Hop on and Off bus was perfect for us. Only issue was finding the office to pick up our tickets. They said we could get them at any of the stops but couldn't find the spots they stopped. We arrived on a Sunday and the large Mall we were to pick them up had no stores open--no one to ask. Had it not been for a wonderful young lady walking thru the mall, we never would have found it. We had a two day pass which included the night tour. The weather was wonderful so we were able to sit upstairs. Don't think you see as much inside bus. All employees were helpful.
FYI One thing we did discover on the regular city buses after our 2 days ended the regular cost is 2 but for seniors it is only 1. They don't tell you that

  • First day of two-day purchase was good. Henry is an awesome tour guide.

Second day was awful. I got off at one location and walked to the next. They did not pick up at the second scheduled location that day saying that it was impossible to get there, except that Old Town Trolley and the Big Bus came by the same stop several times. It was late in the day so I called. I was told to walk to one spot. No bus. I called again. I was told that I missed the last bus of the day there, but could walk to ANOTHER spot. I was told that they would tell the bus driver to make sure to wait for me at that location. I walked there and waited. No bus. I called again. They assured me that the bus was almost there. I waited for another 15 minutes. No bus. I called back. They put me on hold and did not return. After that when I called back several times I suppose they could see my number on caller ID, someone would pick up the phone and immediately hang it up. I had to pay for a taxi in the end. Not much of a bargain and certainly NO CUSTOMER SERVICE.

I am giving this 2 stars because of the good first day. Otherwise, no stars.

  • This tour was amazing!

  • Great to use to get our bearings when we arrived, 1 day isn't enough time to do all the sites, spending time at each. the second day we did a DIY tour of the sites we liked the best.

  • My trip was wonderful!!! the Hop on and Hop off bus was fantastic. The agent at the beginning stop was phenomenal. I totally recommend this tour. The only down side was on Monday I did not see the bus as often as on Sunday. The tour guides were all wonderful. I will be back and will use this service for my full stay.

  • We really enjoyed our Washington DC Hop-On Hop-Off Bus tour. We rode the Metro in from Greenbelt, and when we got off we had some difficulty finding the place where the tour originated. But we saw a small sandwich board sign with a Viator phone number to call and when we called, we were directed to the proper spot.

First we boarded the bus, some of our party up top and some of us inside, out of the sun. We took the entire tour without getting off, to kind of scope it all out and decide which of the stops we were interested in. Our first tour narrator was a woman who was very well informed and had lots of interesting stories to tell us and information to give us. She even warned us of upcoming photo opportunities that would be brief, so we could have our cameras poised.

Then we began a second tour and got off at several stops. We never had to wait very long for the next bus to come along so we could get back on. Our next tour guide was a young man whose information lacked any depth. He spent way too much time kibitzing with a young passenger and not enough time giving tour and attraction information. We got him several times as we reboarded after stops and he was disappointing. I would recommend further training for him.

However, the Hop-ON Hop-Off system is a wonderful system, giving you an overview of a city and that helps you to decide where you might want to explore further. It was pointed out to us that these tours are offered in many cities across the country and around the world, and we will be very likely to try it in other cities.

One thing that came up for us was that we had purchased 8 tickets but only 7 of us were able to make it. When I inquired at the tour origin about the possibility of getting a refund for the unused ticket, I was told that I would have to request that from the vendor who had sold us the tickets, in this case Trip Advisor's Viator. When we got home from our vacation I contacted Viator about it, not really expecting to receive a refund. But when I gave them my information, they put me on hold while they checked it out, and they came back on the line saying that my refund would be credited back to my card within a few days. Indeed, it appeared on my next monthly statement.
    I was very pleased.

We found this to be a wonderful day in DC.
