Know More about this tour

Meet at the Wellington i-SITE Visitor Centre to start your journey in a dedicated shuttle that takes you to Weta Studio Tours.

Your knowledgeable driver will highlight iconic Wellington film sites as you journey to Miramar. On arrival at the Weta Cave, snap photos with our life-sized sculptures, wander through our mini museum, and take a seat for our exclusive documentary, which includes interviews with Richard Taylor and Peter Jackson.

A Weta Workshop crew member will then guide you on a tour through a converted area of the Workshop. Hear our tales of filmmaking, see artists working on our tour stage, and learn secrets of movie magic! Conclude your journey with a return shuttle to central Wellington.

  • This was wonderful have waited ages to be able to get to see the amazing things that are happening here, thoroughly enjoyed our day.

  • It's a nice tour and for this price worth for all the LOTR fans out there. The guides first the bus driver, later another guy in the Weta Cave been really funny and a bit crazy what I liked. It's just a bit short and I expect more behind the scenes.

In the beginngin you will see a short movie about the story and beginning of the Weta Cave - that was quite interesting. After that you will be guided through kind of a museum/exibition of stuff they did for plenty of movies and great background informations by the tour guide. I thought you will be also able to talk to specialists from different departments and see more of the Weta complex. To be honest I'm an audio visiual media designer so most of the stuff wasn't new. The one thing what really suprised me was in how many movies they've been involved. So just go there and make your own experience, specially when you LOTR, District 9, Narnaia, Alien, King Kong..... and Braindead fans.

  • Great experience, very informative bus trip to and from the workshop. Weta itself was extremely interesting...would definitely recommend this tour.

  • Great experience interesting and well worth the tour. The trip to and from Weta workshop was als very informative and good scenery.
Thank you my guests enjoyed the tour.

  • Excellent tour. Wish we had had more time in Wellington to do the longer tour. Weta guide was passionate re his craft and the amazing team that is Weta. Shuttle guide equally as passionate re Wellington and how Weta has positively impacted the area.

  • Had a great time but you should know that you can't take photos of most things due to copy write laws. Totally understandable, but disappointing. Gave us a new understanding on how the industry work. Well worth doing

  • Although I didn’t take the extensive tour, this was one of the highlights of my trip to Wellington. The studios are amazing, and being able to observe up close the artistry behind Peter Jackson’s blockbuster films was both fun and interesting. This tour is a good compliment to the Museum Te Papa.

  • Interesting and Weta produce awesome props. I think it is a bit overpriced, but it’s either pay or you don’t get to see much.

  • Can not rate this highly enough!!!!! So much fun

  • This tour was great. You get great information about the city and the film industry in Wellington. The Weta Cave tour was great especially if you are a movie fan or just interested on how creative the people behind the scenes are.
