Know More about this tour

Wieliczka Salt Mine is one of the most precious and fascinating Polish monuments. The first tourist trail in Wieliczka was established as early as the beginning of the19th century. A couple of centuries later the salt mine was designated as one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites (1978).

The underground path leads through numerous drifts, galleries and chambers, where traces of mining activity have been preserved, as well as examples of art, theme compositions relating to the history of the mine and its legends. Wieliczka is the world's largest mining heritage museum with a collection encompassing unique pieces of mining equipment reflecting the development of mining techniques from the Middle Ages until today. Moreover, the microclimate of the mine has a beneficial impact on visitors who suffer from asthma and allergies.

The tour starts with a descent of 64 meters by stairs. You are then led through a number of chambers and shown underground lakes, shrines and salt monuments. The trip finishes at the level of 135 meters below the surface and the return to the surface is by lift.

  • Tour was great. Meeting point was convenient and the transportation was timely. Local guide at the Mine was knowledgeable. Mine was very interesting. Ride back to town was quick and efficient. Warning: this is a walking tour! You walk down steps and paths to a depth of 135 meters. Elevator back up.

  • The guide was very good and the mines themselves interesting. The minibus was cramped and we had a break as soon as we arrived, which was unnecessary and just delayed the tour.

  • Amazing place, a lot of walking! They mention a lift to bring you back up if you are at all claustrophobic dont do this tour there where 9 people in the lift which was really small.

  • Tour was fine, but they left our group standing in the cold to wait for the bus too long

  • Our tour guide was very patient and friendly with our group especially some of the really annoying kids that were running around. She had a lot of interesting information, gave us time to take photos, and overall I loved this tour. It was worth the money!

  • The tour was excellent, the salt mines are amazing and well worth the time and money to see. The tour guide was very informative and knowledgeable. There is a fair amount of walking and stairs on this tour, it is not for the people with limited mobility.

  • Organised, on time for pick up from our hotel and informed us how the trip would be carried out. Lots of walking down steps, so good shoes needed! This should not put you off as the steps are manageable. Our expectation was exceeded as to the salt sculptures and the various caverns, in particular the cathedral at the base of the mine was magnificent. Short trip back to the top by a mine lift which was most welcomed!

  • This tour was truly amazing.

  • The tour itself was very good and the mines speak for themselves, however the organisation of the groups was a bit messy, standing outside in the cold/snow for quite some time and the instructions when we ready to leave were not Very clear.

  • An amazing experience and a wonderfully interesting place to visit .
