Building Odessa, the city was constructed of stones quarried from the earth. The city consist of buildings and homes and under the earth there were formed, long corridors and mazes. After many years there are lot of stories, tales and legends existing about the Odessa catacombs. For example, during the Second World War, these underground labyrinths hid guerrillas.
Catacombs are an interest for the studies of history and make birthday party or something like that.
They are also know for spending a nice time inside. In the city of sunshine, noisy and bustle, it is worth descending into the catacombs - the fuss and noise disappears, the air temperature, regardless of the season or the time of day, is always one and the same, 15 degrees.
You can get inside through special designed entrances of a few museums, or through unmodified places.

This is not a museum, this is an abandoned part of the huge system of labyrinths that you will visit.All time temperature inside 13-14 degrees. It can be a bit dirty, depends on how you will move.
Sporty/comfortable shoes preferred, not high heels please.
If you have something for light wear for head and something like jacket it is the best.

This is one of the most excited tours that you should do when you visit Odessa. I really enjoyed the trip with Igor, he is professional, good English speaker and welcoming any question. He is knowledgable and expert in this field, so I highly recommend taking the tour with him as he will explain to you everything with good stories as well :). You will have the chance at the end to navigate on your own as a practice to test your knowledge on how to utilize the maps in underground areas.

Egor led our party of four through the catacombs. It was so interesting. He made sure we had on proper jackets which might get dirty. We each had hats to cover our hair and either a headlight or flashlight. (I would suggest guests take along their own raincoat - not for rain but comfortable for the cave temperatures and easy to wash later, as well as a stocking cap of your own.). After about an hour and a half of the twists and turns of the catacombs, our group paired up in twos and was each given a map with five marked destinations to find before returning back to our meeting spot. So much fun but takes some perseverance to track and not get lost. Our entire parry made it out! Don’t miss this when you are in Bucharest.
