Overview

We will start by exploring Portland, then make our way to the Eastern Oregon town of Pendleton. While in Pendleton you will have an experience like no other. Travel like the Pioneers did in a covered wagon pulled by mules and Belgian horses! We will spend 3 days and 2 nights on a wagon train excursion, then make our way back to Pendleton and after an afternoon of leisure we will start our exploration of the amazing history that Pendleton has. We will visit museums that talk about the history of Native American's, Cowboys, and the city of Pendleton. Once you have finished the Underground Tour, you will never look at the sidewalks of this town the same way!

Day 1: Portland City Tour & drive to Pendleton:Experience the City of Portland today! We will visit some amazing location such as Lan Su Chinese Garden, the International Rose Test Garden, and a local Portland chocolate company.

Day 2: Wagon Train Excursion (B/D):This morning you will have the option of taking a walking tour of the Pendleton Bronze Trail. After lunch, we will explore Eastern Oregon in covered wagons pulled by mules and Belgian horses. We will sit around a campfire eating delicious food and once you are ready for bed you can climb into your tent and enjoy the amazing quiet of Eastern Oregon.

Day 3: Wagon Train Excursion (B/L/D):Wake up early so you can take in an unforgettable Eastern Oregon sunrise. Today we will continue exploring Eastern Oregon by Wagon Train

Day 4: Wagon Train Excursion (B):After breakfast we will drive to Pendleton where you will have the afternoon free.

Day 5: Pendleton Makers Tour (B):Morning Activity: The Pendleton Round-Up and Happy Canyon Hall of Fame.Ranging from a full-sized teepee to delicate beadwork, the exhibits in the Hall of Fame cover a wide range of subjects and span over 100 years of Round-Up and Happy Canyon history.
Afternoon Activity: Meet the makers carrying on traditional crafts in this amazing Western town! Visit Staplemans Boots & Leather, Pendleton Hat Company, Hamley & Co., Oregon Grain Growers Distillery.

Day 6: Explore Pendleton (B/D):

  • Pendleton Underground Tour- Learn about the history of gambling, the Chinese, bootlegging, and prostitution here in Pendleton!
  • Pendleton Woolen Mill Tour- See their world famous blankets being made!
  • Tamstslikt Cultural Institute-Tamstslikt celebrates the traditions of Cayuse, Umatilla and Walla Walla Tribes. You will be able to tour their exhibits, meet tribal members in traditional Native American clothing, learn about the history between Native Americans &horses, & make &decorate a buckskin pouch. We will have dinner at the museum.

Day 7: Pendleton-Portland (B/L): Today we will visit the Sage Center whichis an interactive visitor center that highlights sustainable agriculture and energy, then the Columbia River Gorge & Multnomah Falls!

End of tour.

*Please be aware that while on the Wagon Train Excursion you will be camping in a tent, and that there will be no bathroom facilities with running water available. We will have a backcountry toilet for you to use, but you will not be able to shower while we are camping.

During the Wagon Train Excursion portion of this tour, you will be camping and sleeping in a sleeping bag on the ground in a tent.  There will be no running water available to shower, and bathrooms will be backcountry toilets with no running water.  During this portion of the trip, you must wear closed toe shoes, and be dressed appropriately to be outside in hot temperatures.
