Know More about this tour

Start with a pickup from your Porto hotel in the morning, and head out on your full-day tour to the historical Minho province, known as vinho verde. The area produces Portugal's characteristic green wine, and is home to more than 30,000 artisan wine growers who stay true to the country's distinctive winemaking traditions.

Aboard an 8-person minivan, travel to a beautifully secluded destination marked by lush emerald hillsides and sloped vineyards that are kissed by the Atlantic sea breeze. Arrive in the ancient city of Celorico de Basto roughly an hour later, and head to a local wine estate that offers views of the surrounding mountains and forests.

Enjoy an informative tasting session to try the regions unique green wine named for its youthful freshness, rather than its color. Hear how the area's granite soils, intense rainfall, high humidity and acidic grapes create the wine's light, aromatic flavor and light-green, yellowish hue.

Next, head to a local restaurant for lunch. Dine on regional cuisine, including a rich and hearty Portuguese stew and fresh cod, and enjoy the relaxing setting with impressive views over the city of Amarante.

After lunch, explore Amarante's historical city center. Nestled among rich agricultural lands, Amarante is believed to have existed since the 4th century BC. Visit Church St Goncalo, named after an important Portuguese priest, before heading to a restored manor house for your next wine tasting. Soak up the rustic atmosphere of this traditional working farm as you sip local wine in the tasting room alongside samples of local sausage.

Return to your Porto hotel in the evening.

Pedro Pedrosa was our tour guide and he provided a perfect tour. There were only the two of us as it was during the slower season of October. We visited two beautiful and private wine estates, hidden away in the serene and breathtaking hills, plus had a delightful lunch of typical regional food and a visit to the cathedral in Amarante. Pedro was very informative, friendly, and gracious. He has a wonderful sense of humor. By the end of the tour, we felt as if we had toured the area with a friend.

Our driver Luis was prompt and professional. He gave us the background of wine making while driving is to our first winery. The first winery was magical. Mr. Fernandes was an excellent host and took us on a tour of his estate which was amazing. He explained the process of making 'green wine' and afterwards presented a delicious wine tasting along with some yummy snacks. We did not want to leave. Then Luis took us to a popular local restaurant in a small village where we ate a traditional lunch along with the locals. Afterwards Luis drove us to a second winery, not as charming as Mr. Fernando's winery but very nice as well, and different. Here we also got a tour of the grounds which included some very old buildings. Afterwards we were presented with some delicious wine to taste but unfortunately no snacks were presented. This tour was excellent and worth the money and we would go again in a heartbeat.

This tour was one of the highlights of our trip. Our tour host Marco was fantastic. Both estates were wonderful, with Mr. Fernando the owner of the first stop, taking the time to personally walk us through his estate. Marco went above and beyond to ensure that we had a great day. Highly recommended!

What a trip! We had a great tour guide but the property we visited was the best I have ever visited! The owner, an elderly man whose name escapes me as I am writing this was a delight. His passion for his property, the wines he produces, his gardens and his love for what he is creating is infectious! A total delight!

Great tour ! The first winery we went too was amazing! So beautiful ! The wine was just the right amount of dryness. Perfect on a nice summer day! I highly recommand this tour ! The guide is very friendly and informative.

Our guide Marco was enthusiastic, spoke excellent english and was a conservative driver on what were pretty windy roads. The farm we visited in the morning made the trip for us.An excellent day.

We have done a lot of wine tours over the years but this one was very special for us. We had a private tour as no one else had booked for the day. So grateful they did not cancel it. Our guide John was fantastic and was in tune to what we were enjoying and allowed us time based on this. The small, quaint wineries that we visited were just our style. Everything about the day was perfect - the wine, the food, and the people we met. The day was the highlight of our two weeks in Portugal and Spain.

This is an excellent alternative to the more popular Douro Valley tours. Our guide was very knowledgeable and accommodating and picked us up from right outside out apartment.

We would absolutely encourage people to try this tour and experience the fabulous vineyard of the entrepreneurial Fernando Fernandes and much, much more!

Quite interesting tour. Especially first part of the day. We have really interesting walking with owner of the first small winery and wine in this winery was beautiful. Tasting of the wine in this winery with range of other delicacies produced on the estate or in the area was excellent.
