Know More about this tour

Next, you'll travel to the world-famous fishing villages of Volendam and Marken, on the coast of the former Zuiderzee (now called Ijselmeer). The old wooden houses here are built on stilts and locals still wear their colorful traditional dresses. Then, take a 20-minute boat trip from Volendam to Marken, with approximately 45 minutes at each stop (summer only). The cruise is optional but is included in the cost of the tour.

During the day you'll also stop at one of the few farms where cheese is still made in the traditional way.

7-Hour tour departing at 12pm
This option was created based on customer feedback to offer an alternative itinerary and longer tour duration. The afternoon tour at 12pm is 7hours in duration. • Brilliant and very well organized. Driver and guide were very friendly.

  • Great tour of the countryside of north Holland. Going inside of a windmill was both informative and fun. The cheese factory and wooden shoe factory tours were surprisingly good. We would recommend this tour. Gets you out of Amsterdam to see the rest of the Netherlands.

  • Pretty good tour leaving from central Amsterdam. We went on the 7-hour trip. Two guides, friendly and knowledgeable, comfortable bus. Downside was that this was a full double-decker bus, so, MANY people. Felt a little rushed at some places and I can imagine losing a person once in a while. As a matter of fact, on our trip back to the city, a man who had missed his earlier tour bus departure joined ours. It

  • Ran out of time and had to return to Germany so we had to give this tour a miss. Maybe on our next visit but we loved Amsterdam!

  • This tour made my entire vacation. The Windmill Village was so refreshing. Their freshly squeezed OJ was the best I've ever had. Volendam felt like a movie set with it's perfectly manicured neighborhoods, one of a kind sites and great eats. Their specialty, CodFish, was delicious and the Cheese Factory had unique cheese flavors that I just had to purchase. There was a boat ride from Volendam to Marken where we saw the making of wooden shoes. The people of Holland were all very welcoming and friendly. If you have the pleasure of visiting Amsterdam this tour is a must!!!

The tour was fine, it went to the advertised sites. We did enjoy it. There was some moderate walking. In the small amount of free time we ate apple pie, but you could have bought souvenirs. We also saw some cheese making on this tour

  • Great tour! Well organized and knowledgeable guides.

  • Wonderful trip, well planned and timed, considerate leaders, informative and beautiful attractions. Money spent was worth every penny! You won't be disappointed!

  • This is an outstanding tour. Boarding the bus in central Amsterdam, we drove through the countryside enjoying the beauty of the Netherlands. The visit to the dairy farm to see the cows and new-born calves preceded the tour of Ethel cheese processing plant. Then their store provided an opportunity to sample the multitude of flavored cheese they produce,
Next was a visit to the tourist town of Volendam to visit the many shops and again see a shop specializing in cheese. The demonstration is very interesting and then again their were many cheeses to sample. This is also where we were given time for lunch on our own, we went to the recommended restaurant and had wonderful fish and chips, served quickly so we could stay on schedule.
We then boarded a boat to sail to the fishing village of Markham. Here we walked through the village to a wooden shoe factory and saw a preslenttion on the complete process. The various steps in the making of the shoes is interesting and there is a small store if you are interested in purchasing a pair to take home.
Then it was to the site of the largest setting of windmills in Holland. It is a walk out into the center of the windmills and we toured one which is processing seeds for flour and nuts for oil. The whole process is explained and an opportunity to tour the mill on all levels is interesting. There are lots of sites for wonderful pictures of the windmill. Then we boarded the coaches to return to Amsterdam after a wonderful day. This tour is not disappointing.
