Know More about this tour

Next, you'll travel to the world-famous fishing villages of Volendam and Marken, on the coast of the former Zuiderzee (now called Ijselmeer). The old wooden houses here are built on stilts and locals still wear their colorful traditional dresses. Then, take a 20-minute boat trip from Volendam to Marken, with approximately 45 minutes at each stop (summer only). The cruise is optional but is included in the cost of the tour.

During the day you'll also stop at one of the few farms where cheese is still made in the traditional way.

7-Hour tour departing at 12pm
This option was created based on customer feedback to offer an alternative itinerary and longer tour duration. The afternoon tour at 12pm is 7hours in duration. It visits the windmill village of "Zaanse Schans" and the towns of Marken and Volendam. However, this tour gives you more time at all 3 locations.

  • This was a great trip! Our guide was wonderful and the whole tour was well planned, and we had a lot of fun!

  • This tour was great. As much as possible was packed in to our half day so that we could experience the area outside of Amsterdam. Sure we were somewhat rushed but to see all that we saw it was necessary.

  • This trip might be alright on a fine day but from what the guide says there are very few fine days in Holland. We walked through the rain and cold and honestly lost interest in the windmills because we just wanted to get warm and dry. The boat trip on the return didnt have enough seats so we had to stand for half hour. Not one of our better tours

  • Very good tour to see the countryside and windmills

  • The tour was everything we expected. We were shown through a lumber-windmill, which was a treat. How wooden shoes and Dutch cheese are made was interesting - and everyone had an opportunity to buy what they wanted.

  • This was very well done. If you want to experience Dutch culture and have fun, this tour is totally worth it

  • This tour was entirely too commercialized and overcrowded. The group was too large for most of the stops on the tour. The guide did a poor job of directing the group. He did a great job of being a tour guide on the bus to and from Amsterdam but outside of that he wasn't a good guide. He gave lots of information on the tour bus, almost too much at times, but not enough during the stops at places. In many tours we have done, the guide had an umbrella or sign of some sort to hold above the crowd so that everyone could ensure that they were following the correct group. But not with this tour. The walk from the tour office to the bus was not well organized, mix that with rain and lots of traffic and you have a mess. I felt that the tour was too crowded and too rushed for the amount of money we paid. We truly LOVED seeing the windmills and the demonstrations of cheese making and wooden shows but the tour itself was lacking.

  • Take the full day tour. So much to see. The working windmill sawmilling was interesting fabulous museum at Volendam, quaint houses and shops good lunch boat tour to fishing village nice clog factory interesting and fun to try on clogs. Handy hint - groups are big so try to be at the front or you will sometimes miss the informative info from the tour guide - would be so much better if they used mikes and 'whispers'

  • What a fantastic day. Our family including 2 x teenage boys really enjoyed this tour. It had something for everyone. We saw the workings of a windmill in Zaanse Schans, a very entertaining! demo of clog making in Marken and explanation of the cheese making process and tastings of the produce in Voldendam. The tour was well organised without feeling like a military exercise! and there was a decent amount of time at the three different villages. Highly recommended

  • All the Dutch charm you can imagine, including wooden shoes, cheese shops, windmills and quaint towns!
