The capital city of one of the world’s biggest countries, Beijing in China has a history dating back more than 3 millennia. The city’s unparalleled tryst with history and wealth is conspicuous, thanks to its massive palaces, gardens, and temples. Apart from a vast collection of cultural relics, the city has also displayed impeccable development through its many modern buildings. Then there is the soul-satisfying Chinese food too!

With only 24 hours in Beijing, here is how you can make the most of your day!

How to spend 1 day in Beijing?

Start your ‘One day in Beijing’ itinerary, by first visiting what is probably the most famous attractions in Beijing – the Tiananmen Square. Also known as the "Gate of Heavenly Peace," this square separates the Forbidden City from the rest of the city. Next make a quick stop at the Great Hall of the People and National Museum before heading to the Chairman Mao's Mausoleum. After a quick tour of the insides, head to the Forbidden City. Beijing's main attraction, this massive imperial palace has been home to the emperors in Ming and Qing Dynasties. Be prepared, this place is extremely crowded. The Wuying Dian to the west and Juanqin Zhai to the north has many sites worth visiting.

After a quick lunch of ‘baozi’ (steamed dumplings) and some nai cha, head to the Temple of Heaven. This temple was constructed in 1420 AD during the Ming Dynasty and is always bustling with many tourists. Later, take a subway to reach the Beihai Park. This more than a 1000-year-old imperial park features a huge lake and many green spaces.

In the evening, head to Sanlitun. A neighborhood of Beijing known for its many bar streets and international stores. Here you can indulge in some retail therapy or sit down for a nice meal. After dinner, you can head to one of the karaoke bars before you call it a day.
