A Day in Belfast - Perfect 24 Hours Guide

The capital of Northern Ireland, Belfast is full of history, many hidden surprises, great Irish hospitality, and exemplary food scenes. The city is not a very big one from a tourist point of view and with 1 day in hand, you can touch upon some of the most important attractions in the city.

If you have just 24 hours in Belfast, here is how you can plan your day.

How to spend 1 day in Belfast?

Morning:

Start your Belfast city exploration by visiting Donegall Square. Housing many of the city’s administrative offices, the Belfast City Hall is also located here. You can marvel at the many building here before making way to Peace Lines. This two-story fence remains as a reminder of the city’s past. Next visit Belfast Exposed, an open gallery that is exclusively dedicated to photography. By mid-morning, head to Belfast Waterfront. After a quick stop at the Albert Memorial Clock and 'The Big Fish' - the Salmon of Knowledge, visit the Titanic Belfast. This maritime museum is dedicated to the infamous RMS Titanic Ship. Other nearby attractions include SS Nomadic, W5, and SSE Arena.

Afternoon:

The perfect way to spend your afternoon in Belfast is to take a Black Taxi Tour. Apart from the many protestant murals, this tour will also take you through the hotspot of global tensions that arose in the city as a result of a civil war between the Protestants and Catholics in the early 20th century. Drive past sites like the Falls and Shankill Road where ‘The Troubles’ took place. This 90 mins tour is completely unbiased and light-hearted.

Late Afternoon:

After a whole lot of discovering the city, there is more. The St George's Market is a 100-year-old Victorian market that is perfect to enjoy a nice stroll while you also shop! Here more than 300 food hawkers, musicians, artists, and traders will keep you hooked. You can stop to enjoy a nice street performance, or enjoy some delicious street food, or even shop for some souvenirs to take back home. You can easily spend a couple of hours here but remember, the market closes at 4 PM.

Evening:

After a day full of moving around the city, head to Cathedral Quarter in the evening. This buzzing neighborhood with its cobbled streets, trendy cafes, and beer gardens is the perfect way to end your day.
