Known to be the largest hill station in Malaysia, Cameron Highlands is a place packed with picturesque views of rolling green hills and strawberry farms. This is a tea lover’s paradise with tea plantations spread as far as the eye can see. Read on to know how you can make the most of your 72 hours in Cameron Highlands - a scenic hill station which would help you relax and unwind.
What to See in 3 Days in Cameron Highlands
Day 1 in Cameron Highlands:
Begin your day by sipping a hot cup of tea and by devouring a cheesecake in a tea house overlooking lush green tea farms. Cameron Highlands is marked with many small as well as large tea plantations and you will usually see a tea house installed beside the farm. Stop at any of these and enjoy a sumptuous breakfast while taking in panoramic vistas of the hill station.
You can then head towards the Boh Plantation which is spread over 8000 acres comprising of three major tea gardens. You can opt for a guided tour which will not only allow you to wander through the plantation but will also let you know about the process of tea making. The tea produced here is majorly exported to many different places and has a huge demand even in Malaysia. You can then have a quick lunch and visit the Butterfly farm which is considered to be the oldest tourist attraction in Cameron Highlands. While this small park has a wide range of butterfly species, it also has a variety of beetles to showcase.
You can then visit the Time Tunnel Museum which will let you know about the history and culture of Cameron Highlands through its artifacts. However, you will have to hurry up to the museum since it closes down at 6:00 PM. Later as you drive towards your accommodation, you can pull over the roadside and enjoy watching the sunset over the hills.
Day 2 in Cameron Highlands:
Lace up your boots and set on a hike in the Mossy Forest. Engulfed in lush greenery and dwarfed trees, you will feel much closer to nature. Walking along the trails, you will be able to experience the tranquillity that resides in Cameron Highlands. A good 3-4 hours hike will get your heart pumping faster and the adrenaline rushing through your veins.
After meandering through the hills, head towards the Lavender Gardens. This garden with its land carpeted in lavender makes for a mesmerizing sight to behold. Walk through the garden at your own pace and drink in the scenic vistas. There is also a historic bee section here which effectively engages the kids.
You can also buy souvenirs at their gift shop to carry back with you. As evening approaches, visit the Brinchang Town which has a night market. This local market in Cameron Highlands has a variety of products for you to buy. Look out for the local spices that are sold in this market.
Day 3 in Cameron Highlands:
Let your last day in Cameron Highlands begin with hand-picking fresh strawberries at the Big Red Strawberry Farm. Walk through the garden and you will see fresh organic salad vegetables along with rows of potted strawberry plants. Do not forget to try the freshly prepared strawberry ice-cream here. You can even have a filling breakfast at their large cafe which serves delicious snacks.
Next, you should head towards Thompson Falls which is the most picturesque site in Cameron Highlands. Take a dip in the cool pools to unwind and relax. The surrounding greenery is very soothing and makes you want to spend hours together at the waterfall. Your last stop in Cameron Highlands should be the Sam Poh Temple which is a spectacular piece of architecture. The giant Buddha statue in the temple is quite arresting. The Oriental architecture of the temple is certainly admirable.
