Packed with many attractions, Copenhagen should be on every tourist's agenda. If at all you exhaust all the places to visit in the city, then you can enjoy numerous day-trips from the city. Here is an ideal itinerary which will let you make the most of your time if you are planning to spend 7 days in Copenhagen.
What to see in Copenhagen in 7 days?
Day 1 In Copenhagen
Start off your first day in Copenhagen by visiting Langelinie early in the morning. This is a waterfront promenade which has many attractions located in and around it. Wander in the Langelinie Park which enjoys a pleasant atmosphere. Langelinie is also home to the famous Little Mermaid sculpture in the city. Perched on the top of the rock by the sea, this sculpture will take your heart away. Gefion Fountain and Ivar Huitfeldt Column are other attractions close to the pier. Next head towards Kastellet which also very close to Langelinie. This is a 17th-century fortress built in the shape of a star. The fortress now features ramparts and a museum. It also serves as a great venue for shows and concerts at times. Then have lunch and step into the Danish Museum of Art and Design. Established in 1907, this museum is a wonderful place to view all that is antique including clothes and furniture. Your next stop would be Frederick's Church. Popularly known as The Marble Church, this is a beautiful piece of architecture built in between 1749 to 1894. It is constructed in Rococo style and makes for a spectacular sight to behold. End your first day in Copenhagen by visiting Amalienborg. This is home of the Danish Royal family and is a complex of four palaces with identical facades and an octagonal courtyard.
Day 2 In Copenhagen
Head straight to Rosenborg Castle Garden early morning on your second in Copenhagen. Home to the Rosenborg Castle, this is the oldest park in the city. It was established in the 17th century and has many historical buildings located inside it. A leisurely stroll through the park, admiring the building and enjoying the pleasant atmosphere. Then make a beeline for the University of Copenhagen Botanical Garden. It was established at the current location in 1870 and is home to more than 13,000 species of plants and trees. Then make a quick stop at Rundetaarn before hurrying for lunch. This is a 17th-century tower and an admirable piece of architecture. Reach King's New Square and you will have many restaurants that will spoil you for choice. Have scrumptious lunch in a fine restaurant after a tiring first half full of wandering. The square has many small museums as well as shops located in the area. You spend the rest of your day visiting these museums.
Day 3 In Copenhagen
On your third day in Copenhagen, visit Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek museum to admire some exceptional art. Established in 1882, the museum exhibits a personal collection of Carl Jacobsen. The extensive collection is more than 10,000 artifacts and primarily consists of Ancient Greek sculpture, Roman sculpture, Post-impressionists, and Danish Golden Age. Then hop to another museum in Copenhagen called the National Museum of Denmark. Established some 200 years ago, this is the right place to know the Danish culture and history. Then have lunch at a nearby restaurant and move towards Christiansborg Palace. Exhibiting a beautiful amalgamation of different architectural styles, this palace was built in between 1907 to 1928. The various architectural styles evident here include Baroque, Neoclassicism, and Neo-baroque. A tour of this palace and its grounds would definitely occupy more than 2 hours. End your day by visiting another museum called the Thorvaldsen Museum. This is a small museum exhibiting the artwork of a single artist named Bertel Thorvaldsen.
Day 4 In Copenhagen
Let the first half of your 4th day be dedicated to Copenhagen Zoo. This is the best place to visit if you are traveling with kids and family. The zoo is spread over 27 acres and is the oldest zoo in Europe. It is home to more than 3000 animals that belong to about 264 species. After wandering through the zoo, have a quick lunch and head towards Fredericksburg Castle. This beautiful palace served as the royal residence in the 17th century. It exhibits the Renaissance style of architecture and is surrounded by gardens that are Baroque styled. Roaming the gardens and touring the castle will definitely take up the rest of your day. If time permits, you may visit Bakkehuset. This is a historic house museum which has served a number of purposes since the ancient times.
Day 5 In Copenhagen
Embark on an enthralling journey on your 5th day by visiting Dyrehavsbakken. This is an amusement park, located 10 kilometers north of Copenhagen. Packed with many rides that are suitable for all ages, this theme park is ideal for everyone. Get the adrenaline rushing through your veins by riding many of its exhilarating rides. After returning to Copenhagen, if you aren't many times, you can visit Copenhagen Opera House.
Day 6 In Copenhagen
Let your 6th day be a day-trip to Stevns Klint. This is a white chalk cliff located about 77 kilometers away from Copenhagen city center. This serene place is ideal to relax and unwind on a vacation. You will love the cool breeze and the pleasant atmosphere. Spend time wandering through the locality. Before returning to Copenhagen, stop at Holtug Kridtbrud. This is another scenic area that offers panoramic vistas. Come back to Copenhagen and rest well after having a delicious dinner.
Day 7 In Copenhagen
Reserve your last day in Copenhagen for shopping. The city has several areas that are popular to be the best shopping hubs.
