Day 1 In Dresden

Explore the beauty of Old Town -

The beauty of the Old Town is best explored on foot. Located in the heart of the city, you will come across some famous tourist attractions in Dresden while wandering around. Its architectural beauty is the perfect combination of the Renaissance, the Baroque, and modern structures.

You can start your day by visiting Dresden Frauenkirche, one of the most famous churches in this area. Built in the 18th century, this ancient church is known for having one of the largest domes in Europe. This structure has a rich, interesting history as it was first established in 11th century in a Romanesque style. But, after the 17th century, the church was rebuilt in a Baroque style architecture. After being destroyed during the Second World War, the site was in ruins for more than half a century. Today, as the church is reconstructed, it has become one of the famous tourist attractions in Dresden.

After that, head towards the Zwinger palace - the 18th-century palace converted into a museum today. It is considered to be one of the finest examples of late Baroque style architecture. Its art collection was saved as it was moved to another location during the carpet bombing raids in February 1945. But, the building we see today was rebuilt after the war. Start your day by visiting the Pillnitz Castle which is nestled on the bank of the River Elbe. The palace is surrounded by well-manicured gardens that are adorned with flower beds and fountains. Today, this site is home to different museums including the Arts and Crafts Museum and a Palace Museum.

After spending a couple of hours wandering around the castle, you can head towards the museum of Albertinum. Visiting this site is a must for every art lover as it has an extraordinary collection of paintings and sculptures. The displays and exhibits cover the history of the last 200 years.

With only 48-hours in Dresden, you must visit Brühl's Terrace and Semperoper- the opera house in the evening.
