Day 1 In Hamburg

A quiet start to a relaxing vacation, spend the morning exploring nature and religion

Alster Lakes:

An important reservoir in Hamburg, your day couldn’t start better than a biking tour around the lake. While people come here early in the morning for a jog, a walk, or simply to enjoy a game of frisbee in the surrounding parks, you can also choose to spend some time in the water activities that are provided here. After such an energetic start to the day, head to the waterfront cafes for a delicious breakfast and then to the church.

St. Michael's Church:

One of the five most important Lutheran churches in Hamburg, St. Michael's Church serves as the landmark of the city. It is often considered to be amongst the finest churches in terms of architecture and Baroque artwork.

HafenCity:

Located on the banks of the River Elbe, HafenCity is like an old-new book. Along parts of it having monuments and sites that tell stories of the past, it also is one of the largest urban building sites in Europe. New offices and residential areas are slowly shaping up. Being an important port of Hamburg, a number of cafes and restaurants facing the waters offer a unique experience to tourists.

International Maritime Museum:

International Maritime Museum of Hamburg is situated in HafenCity. With more than 40,000 items that make the history of maritime here interesting, it is one of the largest museums of its kind. Its history dates back to 1934 when Peter Tamm started his collection. Most of the current collection, if not all, can be trailed back to him. The museum was established in 2008, in a building that was formerly, a warehouse.

Famed for being the largest warehouse district in the world, SpeicherStadt is a must visit in your 3 Days in Hamburg. Once on the verge of ruins, it is today, an incredible UNESCO World Heritage Site. The rust golden, brick warehouses go on for about 1.5 kilometers. And flowing along it is a canal. The dark blue waters with the brick red contrast is a lovely sight to enjoy!

High on the list of the largest museums in the country, Hamburger Kunsthalle is a place for art lovers. Some sections of the museum are dedicated to various genres including the Old Master, Contemporary, Modern, and more.

Alter Botanischer Garten:

Once a botanical garden from the 1800s, Alter Botanischer Garten is today a park. It is one of the quiet areas of the city. Ornate with statues, sculptures, and inscriptions, a leisure walk here will be a wonderful start to the day.

Landungsbrücken:

Landungsbrücken is a floating water station. Unique and exciting, it is often not noticeably different than land. Many boats and cruises dock here from time to time. The piers and the terminal building are important monuments as they are built from volcanic tuff and are archaic.

Museum Of Hamburg History:

Originally established in the year 1908, Museum Of Hamburg History was shifted to the current location in the year 1922. The permanent collection displays artifacts and items which are categorized into many exhibits like Hamburg in the 20th Century, Baroque Merchant Hall, The 1842 Fire, Enlightenment, and Emancipation, During the German Empire, and The Synagogue.

Kunst Und Gewerbe Museum:

Flaunting art forms like fine, applied and decorative arts, Kunst Und Gewerbe Museum was established in 1874. Its collections include musical instruments, pots, paintings, carpets and more.

Reeperbahn:

Named after the old tradition of rope walking that used to take place here, Reeperbahn is today one of the most happening places in the city. Hosting the city’s largest club festival, the Reeperbahn Festival, this area has few of the top lounges and bars. It is also one of the largest red-light areas of Hamburg.

An escape for a large number of Europeans in the 19th and 20th centuries, Hamburg was home to many foreigners. BallinStadt is the Emigration office that worked tirelessly to accommodate the people. A museum and a monument now, it is definitely worth a visit.
