Hat Yai is the fourth largest town in Thailand and is a favourite retreat amongst Malaysians and Singaporeans. With plenty of vendors selling delicious Thai food at a very cheap price, this town is a foodie’s paradise.
How to Spend 1 Day in Hat Yai
A one-day trip to Hat Yai will be perfect to thoroughly explore the town. Hop onto a tuk-tuk, that is a motorcycle taxi and wander to the best attractions in town. Below is the best way to make the most of your 24 hours in Hat Yai.
Start your day with a delicious breakfast of Dim Sum at one of the most well-known restaurants in Hat Yai called Chok Dee Dim Sum. The Asian cuisines served here will take your taste buds on a feast. After a hearty breakfast, head towards the Hat Yai Municipal Park. This is a hilly area which has many larger than life statues. These include a 65 feet tall Buddha, many golden elephants, a four-face Brahma statue, and a white statue of Guan Yin. The prime attraction of the park is the recently started cable car. Opt to ride in the gondola and you will be treated to panoramic views of the park as well as the entire town. This park would easily occupy your 2 to 3 hours.
For lunch, you must try Hat Yai’s street food. Offering a wide variety of mouth-watering dishes, these food stalls will definitely leave you licking your fingers. One such recommended food joint is Chen Longboat noodle house. Later in the day, head towards Wat Hat Yai Nai - the best local temple in town. Here, you will be able to witness the third largest reclining Buddha. This massive statue along with the shrine will leave you spellbound.
As the sun starts leaning towards the west, lead yourself to the Hat Yai’s local floating market. This buzzing market will certainly compel you to go on a shopping spree. From clothes, bags, shoes, to fresh fruits, you will find it all here. The prime feature of this floating market is the food served along the banks of a small canal. Vendors line up their boats and offer a wide range of food items that are not only delicious but also reasonably priced. Do try the lip-smacking grilled and fried insects served here.
Although not very touristy, Hat Yai has the potential to entertain you for a day. Refer to this 1 day in Hat Yai itinerary to have a fun-filled day-trip.
