The capital of Turkey, Istanbul is shared by two continents – Europe and Asia! Separated by the Bosphorus Strait, these two parts of the city show two different characters. The city as a whole reflects the varied traditions of the many empires that once ruled here. While the iconic Byzantine Hagia Sophia remains one of the most important sites in the city, there are many more places worth visiting.

How to see Istanbul in 4 days?

Day 1 to Day 3: City Exploration

On the morning of day 1, cover the Sultanahmet Area. This place has some of the most important sites in the city. Start by first visiting Hagia Sophia. This 6th century Greek Orthodox church was later turned into a mosque after the Ottoman Turks took over the city. Later, move to the Blue Mosque. Also called the Sultanahmet Mosque, the mosque is decorated with six towering minarets and blue colored İznik tiles which makes this one of the most visited sites in Turkey. Another place that you can visit in this tourist district is the Topkapi Palace. Apart from that, you can check out many monuments and historical structures like Taş Koltuk, Obelisk of Theodosius, Serpent Column, Walled Obelisk, and 1001 Direk Cistern while here. In the afternoon, visit the Grand Bazaar and the Spice Market before visiting the Mosque of Süleyman the Magnificent. On day 2 of your 4-day Istanbul by heading to the New District. This side of the town has many beautiful palaces, shopping avenues, and many bustling back alleys that you can visit. Starting from the Galata Bridge, you will encounter many interesting sites like Old Galata Walls – Azapkapı, The Quincentennial Foundation Museum of Turkish Jews, Pera Müzesi, The Museum of Innocence, Madame Tussauds Istanbul, and Dolmabahçe Palace before you end your trip at the Taksim Square. On day 3, we suggest you sign up for a full day Bosphorus Cruise. This cruise will glide past some of the most spectacular sites in the city.

Day 4: Asian Tour

Drive across the Bosphorus Bridge to reach the continent of Asia! Start your Asian Tour by first heading to the Çamlıca Hill. Istanbul’s highest point, this place offers some of the best views of the skyline of Istanbul. In the afternoon, visit the Anadolu Kavağı. A traditional Asian fishing village, you can even have lunch here at a traditional Turkish eatery. While making your way back to the city, visit the Beylerbeyi Palace. This palace was a summer residence of Ottoman Sultans and one of the most beautiful palaces in the city.
