How to spend 1 day in Kochi?

A colorful morning

Start your day with a splash of colors. Head to the Gallery of Contemporary Art. formerly used as a meeting place by the royals, this museum holds artworks by famous Indian artists. Coins, oil paintings, sculptures, and even murals can be viewed here. After this gallery, the next stop is the Cochin Jewish Synagogue. It is one of the oldest synagogues in Kochi and is said to have been a gift to the community from the royal family. It was slightly damaged during the 1662 war and was restored later.

Before lunch, head to the Dutch Palace which is located close by. The palace was built by the Portuguese and gifted to the Raja of Kochi. This was in 1555. It boasts of having some of the best artworks of the country, including the best mythological murals of the country.

A sober afternoon

After having lunch in a nearby hotel, make your way to the Indo Portuguese Museum. The museum is divided into five sections, each dealing with different subjects, namely alter, treasure, procession, civil life, and cathedral. After such a museum it only makes sense that the next stop must be the Santa Cruz Basilica. Built a long time ago by the Portuguese, it is said to have been one of the oldest churches in India.

Next stop, Fort Kochi Beach. Famous for dolphin sightings, this beach is also one of the most popular places to hang out amongst locals and tourists. Beaching at its best, you can swim and enjoy the sand, and even opt for some water activities here.
