A Day in Madrid - Perfect 24 Hours Guide

Madrid can be dubbed as an ‘artist’s city’ in Spain. With beautiful architecture marking every corner of the city, wandering in Madrid turns into one beautiful walk to remember. It has numerous places to visit, spoiling you for choice during your Madrid vacation. With limited time in hands, you will be torn between visiting the prime attractions and the hidden gems lesser known amongst the public. Madrid is a city which honestly deserves more days to be thoroughly explored. But if you have planned to spend just 1 day in Madrid, then here are a few famous attractions that you must fit in your itinerary.

How to spend 1 day in Madrid?

Royal Palace of Madrid

Serving as the official residence of the Spanish Royal Family and a venue for state ceremonies, the royal palace of Madrid dates back to the 1700s. It showcases baroque and classicism style of architecture and makes for a spectacular sight to behold. The palace is comprised of 3,418 rooms and is said to be the largest palace in Europe with respect to its floor area. You must visit this grand palace during your 24 hours in Madrid.

Temple of Debod

View a little of Egypt while touring Spain by visiting Temple of Debod. Originally situated in Egypt, this ancient temple was dismantled and rebuilt in Madrid's park - the Parque del Oeste. The ancient Egyptian temple was relocated and reconstructed in Madrid between 1970 and 1972. Located close to the Royal Palace of Madrid, you must head towards this attraction next.

Museo Nacional Del Prado

One of the prime attractions in Madrid, the Prado Museum was established in 1819. This Spanish national art museum has an extensive collection of European art ranging from the 12th to 20th century. Considered to be one of the largest museums in Spain, its collections are comprised of paintings, sculptures, prints, drawings, historical documents, and a variety of other artworks. If you are an art lover, then this a must-visit place for you in Madrid.

Santiago Bernabéu Stadium

If you are more of a football fan and not an art-lover, you may skip visiting Museo Nacional Del Prado and instead head towards this home stadium of Real Madrid. Since both the attractions are quite a time to consume, squeezing them both in your 1 day Madrid itinerary will not be feasible. Santiago Bernabéu Stadium was opened in 1947 and holds a capacity of 81,044. Regular tours are held of the entire stadium and the trophy room.

Puerta del Sol

Known to be the liveliest square in Madrid, Puerta del Sol is a favorite amongst locals and tourists alike. Located in the heart of Madrid, this plaza is packed with many famous buildings and landmarks. It has numerous restaurants, pubs, cafes, and shopping malls. The street performers like jugglers and magicians will keep you entertained for hours together. The square turns even more beautiful when it is lit at night. This is the perfect place to taste the nightlife in Madrid.

Add these attractions to your Madrid itinerary of 1 day and you will have the satisfaction of having visited the prime attractions in the city.
