How to spend 2 days in Marseille?
Day 1: Historical Tour
Begin the first day of your 48 hours in Marseille at Calanques National Park. You will need at least 2 hours to explore the breathtaking scenery and adjacent marine area of this park. Drive for half an hour and you will reach the famous basilica of Marseille- Notre-Dame de la Garde. Take a boat ride to the island of If which is 1.5 kilometers offshore the Bay of Marseille. Here you will see Château d'If, the 16th-century castle and former prison.
Enjoy your lunch at one of the seafood restaurants on the Old Port of Marseille and visit the Fort Saint-Jean. Only a 5 minutes’ drive will lead you to the neo-Byzantine building of Marseille Cathedral. You can walk by foot for next 10 minutes to reach the Museum of European and Mediterranean Civilizations. Learn about the Mediterranean history here. At evening you can again head to the port area to catch the sunset and enjoy dinner.
Day 2: Beaches and Sports
Save the second day of your 2 days in Marseille in exploring the beaches of the city. Head straight to Calanque de Port Pin enjoy playing with the azure blue waters of the coast. The pebble beach and rock walls of Calanque d'En-Vau can be your next stop. Cool down and enjoy fishing at Calanque de Sugiton. You would also enjoy tuna fishing at your next stop Calanque de Morgiou. This is one of the biggest calanques in France.
In the afternoon, enjoy hiking at Calanques National Park exploring more about Marseille’s flora and fauna. For lunch, Plage de la Pointé Rouge can be a great place. Spend some time touring various museums located nearby. Marseille is also home to Orange Vélodrome, a multipurpose playground. You can check the schedule of the sports events going to be held here and watch a live show at the evening.
