Day 1 and 2 in Milan
Milan is a historical city and during your 5 days/ 4 nights in Milan, it is important that you take a tour of all the significant historical places of the city. Begin the first day by exploring the ancient Roman ruins at Colonne di San Lorenzo. The Basilica di San Lorenzo can be your next stop as this will also give you a glimpse of ancient Roman times. You can rest at Park Parco Giovanni Paolo in afternoon and then head straight to Mudec, a modern museum of art. You would not want to miss the gate of Milan called Porta Ticinese that was originally built with the Spanish walls. Stop for a while at Basilica of Sant'Eustorgio. No place in Milan can be better than Ticinese for spending an evening. Dotted with a number of vintage shops, dive-in bars, and marked by its hipster atmosphere, Ticinese is a heaven for youngsters.
Next morning, you can take a tour of the famous Milan Cathedral. It would be an awesome experience to see the castle that took almost six centuries to complete. Close to it, there is Museum of the Milan Cathedral that houses old sculptures. The afternoon should be spent at the Royal Palace of Milan exploring its cultural and art exhibits. Santa Maria presso San Satiro and Biblioteca Ambrosiana can be your next points of attraction to visit. The Renaissance structure of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Santa Maria delle Grazie is also a must visit to see Da Vinci’s Last Supper. Day 3 and 4 in Milan
Start the morning at Giardini Pubblici Indro Montanelli, the historic city park of Milan. Close to the park, there is Museo Civico di Storia Naturale di Milano and Galleria d'Arte Moderna. In afternoon, it would be a great to walk through the streets of Via della Spiga. Explore more art and history museums that are located in the surrounding area. Indulge in shopping the local items from the fashion street of Milan- Via Manzoni. The Quadrilatero della moda is also a heaven for a great retail therapy. After exploring the boutiques here, spend your entire evening at Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, the oldest active shopping mall in the world.
On day 4, you can explore some more historical buildings and palaces that Milan is famous for. See the mannerist style of architecture at Palazzo Marino, a 16th century palace. Discover the huge collection of Italian paintings at Museo Poldi Pezzoli. To know the facts and wonders of Italian archaeology, visit the Archaeological Museum of Milan. Know the history of La Scala Theatre at Museo Teatrale alla Scala and finally watch a wonderful opera show at Teatro alla Scala.
Day 5 in Milan
Spend the final day of 5-day trip to Milan by exploring the “Castello” of Milan. This part of the city includes the castles and the remains of ancient fortifications. Learn about the history of the 15th century Sforza Castle. Right beside it, Museo d'Arte Antica is situated. Inside the campus of Castello, there are attractions like Triennale and Civic Aquarium of Milan that you will love to explore. Take a walk through the Parco Sempione. Before leaving Milan, it would be a treat to have a glance of the city from the tower of Torre Branca.
