What to see in 3 days in Munnar?
Day 1: A Tour of Tea Plantations
Munnar has over 50 tea plantations and each one is an epitome of beauty and hardwork. Therefore, it would be a good idea to dedicate your first day of 3 days/2 nights in Munnar to the tour of tea plantations. Most of the plantations in Munnar are owned by the TATA group. Other plantations belong to Harrison, AVT, Michael’s, and Brook Bond. You can start this tour by visiting the Kanan Devan Hills Plantations.
Another exciting place close to KDHP is Kolukkumalai Tea Hiking area. This is known as the highest tea plantation in Munnar. Hiking over it surrounded by the lush greenery of tea gardens is a unique experience. But gazing at the gardens is not enough. You should visit the Munnar Tea Museum to know the history and industry of tea plantation in South India. This museum will help you do so with the help of various demonstrations, photographs, and machinery. You can also visit the Pallivasal Tea Estate and other nearby tea gardens. As the sun sets, you should plan a stay in one of the tea garden resorts like Windermere Estate or Munnar Tea County Resort.
Day 2: A Tour of the Wildlife
As it has been said before that every corner of Munnar is a symbol of natural beauty, without exploring its natural treasure, you 3 days in Munnar will be incomplete. Therefore, you can plan to dedicate the 2nd day of your Munnar trip to the tour of wildlife in Munnar. For this, plan a trip to the Eravikulam National Park. The park was originally established to protect the Nilgiri Tahr. Eravikulam is the first national park of Kerala and is regarded as the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Some small tributaries of Periyar River flow through the park creating beautiful waterfalls and lakes. Apart from the Nilgiri Tahr, which this park is most famous for, it also houses 26 species of mammals, 132 species of birds, and 19 species of amphibians, and a large variety of butterflies. You can spend half of your day in the park exploring the wildlife.
Your next destination can be Mattupetty Dam where you can enjoy your lunch and wait till the sun sets leaving its orange, golden hues on the skies. Return to your hotel and relax.
Day 3: A Tour of Waterfalls
Another important part of Munnar’s natural treasure is its waterfalls that you would not want to miss visiting during your 72 hours in Munnar. Most of the waterfalls are located near the Eravikulam National Park. You can start with Nayamakad Waterfall which has a height of 1600 meters. There are also many trekking points and hiking trails near the waterfall.
After spending some time at Nayamakad, you can move forward to the Attukal Waterfall. This waterfall is 9 kilometers from the main town of Munnar and is known for its roaring sound waters. The Lakkam Waterfall, Chinnakanal Waterfall, and Kuthumkal Waterfall are also worth-visiting.
Apart from the lakes, you would also like to visit the Echo Point for a unique experience. Listening to the echo and boating in the lake are things you will surely enjoy.
