A Day in Naples - Perfect 24 Hours Guide

Mention Naples and you can't help but think of pizza. Add in some sweeping views of the Mediterranean Sea and a whole lot of volcanic history and you have to yourself one sojourn you will cherish for a lifetime. Food lovers, history nerds, art fanatics and general leisure, everyone has something to look forward in Naples. Generally combined with Italy’s tourist hotspots of Rome and the gorgeous Amalfi Coast, Naples is more or less like a pitstop. With attractions such as the town of Pompeii lying in proximity, 1 Day in Naples can be quite soul-satisfying. If you 24 hours in Naples is on your agenda, here’s how you should ideally spend them.

How to spend 1 day in Naples?

Begin your exploration with a hearty breakfast at one of the best local breakfast places in Naples. Save the pizza for lunch, for breakfast what you must indulge in are authentic pancakes, brioches, croissants, bignes, babas and leaf teas among others. There are a handful of restaurants and bakeries around the highlight of your morning sightseeing, the Piazza del Plebiscito. One of the best things to do in Naples, the Piazza del Plebiscito is marked by the presence of the stunning neo-classical Royal Palace along with some striking equestrian statues. This is a good place to spend the morning flanked by several other attractions like Basilica Reale Pontificia San Francesco da Paola, Artistic Industrial Museum, and the Fontana dei Leoni.

By now, you must be longing to dive into the specialty of the region and dive you must in the heavenly pizzas. Lunch is best followed by strolling, window shopping, interacting with locals and tourists and just sinking in the flavour of Naples at the eclectic Spaccanapoli (street). This is perhaps that one street that you have noticed in many pictures of Naples. Narrow, classically cobble-stoned and historically centred the Spaccanapoli (street) derives its name from splitting the city into two sections. Some of the most important sights of Naples like Santa Chiara, Santa Marta, San Biagio Maggiore, Santi Filippo e Giacomo, San Francesco delle Monache and San Domenico Maggiore lie along this street.

If you fancy an Italian sunset over the Mediterranean Sea, then heading to the panoramic Lungomare is what you must consider. This is that spot where tranquility beckons after all the city center’s hysteria. A walk across its length of 2.5 kilometers is rejuvenating, to say the least, what with the Mediterranean breeze kissing you gently. Not to mention views of some of the most iconic attractions of Naples like the grand Mount Vesuvius, some castles and villas of the affluent Neapolitans! Post sunset, brace yourselves to experience the delight of the nightlife Naples possesses.

    • Yes, it is possible to visit both Pompeii and Herculaneum in one day. Each site ideally requires around 3 hours to cover. It might prove to be a little strenuous, but it is possible. Just remember to carry bottles of water, wear comfortable footwear, and a hat or a cap.
