2 Days in Venice Itinerary

Day 1 in Venice

Let your 1st day in Venice be reserved to cover San Marco and Castello areas in the city. Start by exploring San Marco which has many of the prime attractions in Venice. First visit Doge’s Palace which exhibits Venetian Gothic style of architecture and now serves as a museum.

Then, head towards Saint Mark’s Basilica, located just a stone’s throw away from Doge’s Palace. This basilica dominates the huge Saint Mark’s Square with its grand architecture that gives you a glimpse of the Venetian wealth. You will also find Saint Mark’s Clocktower and Campaline in the vicinity.

If you wish to continue exploring San Marco further, then a few other attractions that you may visit are Rialto Bridge, Museo Correr, Teatro La Fenice, and Palazzo Grassi. If you want to explore Castello neighborhood, then you may have to skip a few of the above mentioned attractions.

The places that you may visit in Castello include Basilica dei Santi Giovanni e Paolo, Museo di Palazzo Grimani, Venetian Arsenal, and La Biennale di Venezia Arsenale. After a tiring day of wandering, you may want to retire to your accommodation. But don’t give up so soon, as Venice turns into a different world filled with romance as the sun sets.

Day 2 in Venice

Reserve the first half of your second day in Venice to visit all the attractions located in the district of Dorsoduro. Let your first stop in the area be Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute which is a Roman Catholic church, built in between 1631 and 1687.

Then visit Peggy Guggenheim Collection where you can admire a vast collection of 20th century art. The museum is set in an 18th century waterside palace. Then you may take a gondola ride to meander through the narrow waterways of Venice.

Other attractions that are located in Dorsoduro and are worth a visit include Ponte dell'Accademia, Ca' Rezzonico, Gallerie dell'Accademia, Scuola Grande dei Carmini, and Chiesa di San Sebastiano.
