The romantic city of Verona is the gateway to the beautiful Lake Grande and is situated in northern Italy's Veneto region. The city's claim to fame is being the setting for Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet." A 14th-century "Juliet"s House" is one of the city's top attractions. Other main attractions like the Basilica San Zeno, Teatro Romano, and the Arena, Verona is best explored on foot, at your own pace.

How to spend 1 day in Verona?

Morning

Spend the morning familiarizing yourself to the city. This eye-pleasing medieval city has many churches, monuments, winding alleyways, and squares that you can explore. Start with visiting the city's historical centre and walking along its many UNESCO World Heritage-listed sites. There are many churches and palaces along the way where you can stop for a quick photo. Next, visit the city's most preserved treasure - the ancient Roman arena. Dating back more than 2000 years, this arena could hold more than 30,000 people back in its days. Today, this site is well-preserved and open to the public. Home to the Verona Arena Festival, do not miss out on visiting this arena. Next, head to the former home of a famed opera singer, Maria Callas before making your way to the Juliet's House (La Casa di Giulietta).

Afternoon

After lunch at one of its street-side cafes, head to Sirmione and Lake Garda. Located about 15 miles from the city centre, Lake Garda is one of the top attractions in Italy. As you make your way out of the city, you will pass through the rolling hills of Valpolicella before entering the picturesque village of Sirmione. After reaching the town, take a walk along its many beautiful streets where you will be treated to the stunning views of the lake. Explore the town at your pace before heading to the lake. Here at the lake, you can either just take a stroll, or take a boat ride along its shimmering waters. Head back to Verna in the evening.

Evening

Enjoy a walking food tour of Verona in the evening. The city’s culinary treasure includes Italian espresso, a pastry, and a glass of Amarone wine among many others. Start with visiting of the cafes where you can pair the espresso with a delicious pastry before checking out products such as Soppressa and Monte Veronese Cheese. Next, visit a local workshop to see how tortellini is made. Towards the end of the day, try some wines like the local Prosecco, Lugana, Valpolicella, and Amarone.
