Tennoji Park, Osaka Reviews

  • Please do not go visit this zoo as you will only be contributing to animal cruelty. We witnessed many animals who seemed to have both mental and physical issues. These wonderful creatures had no space to move around except to walk around their enclosures. On top of that the condition of the cages were disgusting and unrealistic. All the animals looked underweight and mentally disturbed. The bear family in particular was heartbreaking to see as the creatures were constantly pacing back and forth and in circles. The nocturnal animals were kept in miniature pet like cages with little room to move. A numerous amount of bats were cramped into a small dirty enclosure, and for the first time I witnessed a majority of the bats crawling on the floor helplessly. The arctic animals (polar bears and penguins) were not kept in cold conditions instead their enclosures were painted white, yet they were kept in the sun with viewers flashing their cameras at what people call ‘entertainment’, I cannot imagine the conditions these poor animals live in during the summer when the cement would be unbearably hot. The chimpanzees and monkeys were also kept in small isolated cages and looked distressed by the horrible conditions they were kept in. We deeply regret having not read the reviews before visiting the zoo as we left with a guilty conscious. This disgusting and heartbreaking zoo shouldn’t be called a zoo at all but a animal cruelty attraction. The zoo is located in the middle of a busy town, which clearly iterated all animals especially the birds as their enclosure was kept directly under the highway. Tennoji zoo is a clear violation of all animal cruelty laws and must be closed down immediately, these poor creatures must be released into their natural habitats or relocated into a natural mimicked and spacious environment.

  • Lots of animals to see as the zoo is quite sizable. However the animals need larger enclosures. Some larger animals seem stressed pacing back & fourth so it was a bit difficult to explain to kids. It's a zoo, but you wouldn't miss anything great if you skip a visit as there are happier zoos elsewhere quite frankly.

  • This place is disgusting. If you decide to come here after reading this review, you are contributing to animal cruelty. People who rate this any higher than 1 star don't care about animals at all. You people are the problem with today's society, you see animals as entertainment and to just get a nice photo for social media. Animals are not here for our entertainment. The enclosures look run down and way to small to be housing some of these beautiful creatures. They look sick and mentally affected. I came to the zoo without looking at reviews first, because my Airbnb was 5mins away, however I now regret this decision after reading similar reviews and seeing for myself. I understand the sizing issue with the zoo as it is centrally located in Osaka. But that is no excuse for the condition of these animals. DO NOT COME HERE IF YOU REALLY CARE ABOUT ANIMALS. YOU WILL LEAVE WITH A GUILTY CONSCIOUS.

  • The zoo is really cheap and has a lot of animals for the size. Unfortuantly the size of the zoo also means that most of the animals are in enclosures far far smaller than they need and they look visibly distressed. I couldn't in good conscious reccomend it to anyone that loves animals.

  • I will never recommend the zoo to any animal lover. I felt sick looking at the condition the poor animals are in. The African Savannah animals are placed in small enclosures not mimicking their natural habitats. One poor wild cat's right front leg was obviously injured but no zoo attended to the poor creature. I would highly suggest to CLOSE TENNOJI ZOO!!!Please release these poor animals from Tennoji Zoo & place them in a much wider space that mimicks their natural habitat. PETA & all Animal Rights - please help to rescue them.
