Pao De Acucar - Review

This peak located at the mouth of the Guanabara Bay is another popular destination in the city of Rio. The peak is largely conical in shape and goes by the popular name of Sugarloaf Mountain. The name is said to have originated in the 16th century when sugarcane cultivation was a booming industry in the country.

The shape of the mountain is said to closely resemble a slab of loaf sugar, hence the name. The interesting point about this peak is that it is more commonly associated to a vantage point more than a national historical location like the nearby Corcovado peak. It is certainly a good idea to take advantage of the Birdseye view from the top. Also, visit the popular attractions in the city by following Rio De Janeiro Itinerary 5 Days.

Pao De Acucar, Rio De Janeiro Reviews

  • Wonderful place with a mix of forest and urbanized area. You need to go up by a cable car. The ticket is a bit expensive, but worth it. It has 2 stops at different altitudea where you can have a look at the wonderful city of Rio de Janeiro. There are few restaurants at the top where you can have snacks and a beer.

  • The station is in the middle of a neighborhood and is a bit oft and worn but the ride is pretty cool and they are well organized. You end your way through the trees with a stop in the middle to let the other car by and vendors are there to sell water and beer while you wait. The statue itself is amazing but that's another story. You may have a long wait in line and in a seating area for the ride back.

  • A must visit for any Rio explorer. Going there half an hour before the dawn is especially recommended. If you feel like walking a bit, you can climb the first mountain through the jungle (yes, it's a real piece of rain forest in the middle of the city).

  • Good views of the city and surrounding area.you can walk around and see most of the mountain. There's gift shops and food places to eat. There's chairs and benches to sit. You could spend most of a day here, though not sure why you'd want to. There is a second cable car that goes to another mountain but that costs extra. Leaving the mountain by cable car wasn't too bad. We waited about 5 mins. People are mostly civil and not pushy.

  • Great views of the city from the top. Definitely go to the second peak, as this was the better one for us in terms of views. They have made really nice areas at the tops for walking around and view points. Food and drinks are more expensive at the top as expected. If you can be t the 2nd peak for sun set, you will get some great shots with Christ the redeemer in the background.
