About Pao De Acucar, Rio De Janeiro

This peak located at the mouth of the Guanabara Bay is another popular destination in the city of Rio. The peak is largely conical in shape and goes by the popular name of Sugarloaf Mountain. The name is said to have originated in the 16th century when sugarcane cultivation was a booming industry in the country.

The shape of the mountain is said to closely resemble a slab of loaf sugar, hence the name. The interesting point about this peak is that it is more commonly associated to a vantage point more than a national historical location like the nearby Corcovado peak. It is certainly a good idea to take advantage of the Birdseye view from the top.

Pao De Acucar, Rio De Janeiro Reviews - Write a Review

  • A very well maintained attraction. I didn't know what to expect at first, but the cable car and the views were very good and I had a good time with my girl. Very pricey, R$ 80 for each ticket. Make sure to bring your camera and take a lot of pictures to get your money's worth.

  • Renovations everywhere. Have to wait a long time to take photos of the city due to limited space for the view and many visitors. But great view though. ( 14 April 2016 around 16.30 hrs)

  • My favorite attraction in Rio de Janeiro. Amazing views, pleasant environment... It's perfect for tourists and cariocas as well.

  • No lines at begin of dec. CCard accepted and first cablecar takes 5 min...on first mountain a stop and short walk to 2nd cablecar, which takes 5 min to the very top. On top trails to walk around with nice views and Restaurant with great little Terrace to enjoy drinks and food. Great spot.

  • It has a wonderful view when clear sky. You can see all Rio City and take nice pictures. However all the good, food and service are really expensive. So take everything with you.
